Thirteenth Annual Tour de Kingdom

2019

We offer a “full plate” of cycling  on carefully selected back roads of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.  Our offerings have grown over the years.   Three days of fully supported rides in  June and a shorter, Fly to Pie, Doin the Dirt at the end of September.  Do one day or do them all.  New to the Tour these past couple of years is The Moose which offers a great opportunity for fine, fast riding on some of the most beautiful and most “car hungry” roads in Vermont.  Wrapping up the season is our Fly to Pie – Kingdom Marathon.  It’s a “vista riddled” 26-mile bike (and running) race on dirt roads through “the gut” of the Kingdom to Parker Pie in West Glover.  All the pizza you can eat, a great band, and a cash bar with local beer on tap including Hill Farmstead.

Here are the dates

June 7 thru 9, 2019 – The June Tour – Three Days of Fully Supported Rides

June 8, 2019 – The Moose – a 103 Mile Timed Event

September 29, 2019 – Fly to Pie – Kingdom Marathon – 26 Miles on Dirt Roads

June Tour

June 7 thru 9, 2019 – The June Tour offers three days of SAG supported rides on carefully selected stretches of road that showcase The Northeast Kingdom at it’s very best.  Quiet back roads that are favorites of our local cyclists.  Light traffic and recent repaving make for some of the best cycling in the northeast.  We provide the lunches, the maps, the directions, and roving SAG wagons that are fully equipped by the Village Bike Shop in Derby.  We love the coming of lilacs along the roadside and the lush greens that come with High Spring in the Kingdom.  Each day has long routes and shorter options.  Just like ski areas have differently rated slopes.  Great for clubs with varying interests and abilities in riding.

On Saturday, we invite you to DO THE MOOSE, a “timed event” with some great prizes for individual winners (six packs of lift tickets at Burke Mountain and day passes at Kingdom Trails), not to mention some slabs of Brault’s Beef Jerky and some Couture’s Maple Syrup to the winners of the Team Challenge.  Then again, many may just want to savor a great ride, on great roads.  It’s Lilac Season and there are many spots where you can smell them along the roadside as you ride by.

So here’s what we got:

Friday, June 7th, 2019 — Ride Around Lake Memphremagog: This ride is a favorite of our local Kingdom Velo Group – In 2010 we added this ride and folks really love it — a supported tour around Lake Memphremagog with stops at Georgeville, Magog, The Abby, and Mansonville. This 80 mile route is a great way to “warm up” for the weekend. Or do it as a stand-alone day and forget the rest. But, you better bring your passport! It involves International Travel and is just so much fun. We also offer a shorter ride up to Georgeville and back. We meet at The EastSide Restaurant, 47 Landing Street, Newport, Vermont at 8:00 am and leave at 8:30 am.

Saturday, June 8th, 2019 — The Moose .  We gather at Mike’s Tiki Bar in East Burke at 8 am with a start at 8:30  am.  We head north up Route 114 through Island Pond to Norton and Canaan and then down Route 102, one of the most beautiful and serene stretches of the Connecticut River, before returning to Island Pond and then back to East Burke.  Here’s a link to Saturday’s Century Course Map.  For those looking to ride a shorter distance, we start at Island Pond and just do the Norton, Canaan, Bloomfield loop.

THE MOOSE, is a 103 mILE “timed event,” with some great prizes and wonderful spirit.    Racers must obey all of the rules of the road.  That means you have to stop at all stop signs.  But, hey, there are only three in the entire 103 miles.  For more information about The Moose, click here.

Sunday, June 9th, 2019 –Lake Region Century.  8:30am start.  At Mike’s Tiki Bar.  The route takes you through the legendary lake region of the Northeast Kingdom – by Willoughby, Memphremagog, Seymour and Island Pond before bringing you back to East Burke.  Here’s a link to Saturday’s Century Course Map.  We also offer a less strenuous but equally beautiful 45 mile option that brings you along the shores of Lake Willoughby and Crystal Lake.  Here’s the link to the 45 Mile Course Map.
