Lodging and Dining

We have some great lodging and dining options available in the area.  Below are some of our favorite lodging options.  Good people who support our efforts in many ways.  For a list of dining options, CLICK HERE.

Burke Mountain Hotel, catering to the year round offerings of East Burke and its environs, skiing, biking, hiking, and, yes, open water swimming.  It’s a perfect stay if you are doing The Moose in June.  And, if you are swimming Willoughby or any of the other lakes during NEK Swim Week, it’s a relaxing getaway after the morning swims.  Tell them that you are a “Kingdom Gamer” and you’ll get a special discount.  It’s also a perfect place to stage a weekend at Kingdom Trails, the very best mountain bike center in North America.

Jay Peak Resort has a wide selection of hotel rooms and condos.  These are world class accommodations.  There’s a lot going on at The Peak, from the water park, to ice skating, golf, fine dining and terrific entertainment.  There are some special discounts available to Kingdom Game participants.  CLICK HERE

Newport City Inn and Suites is well run and centrally located.  It has a pool and a hot tub and is just up from The Brown Cow for a great breakfast.  Totally close to all the Lake Memphremagog swims and all the Winter Games at The Eastside Restaurant.  Tell them you are a Kingdom Gamer and you will get a 10% discount upon registration.  The owner/proprietor, Darrick Granai, is a charter member of our ice clearing crew and is a great help maintaining the oval, the skating rinks, and the Nordic skating trails, once they are open.

The Bunkhouse at Northwoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston, Vermont. Minimum fee $150 per night for up to 5 persons. $25 for each additional person, sleeps up to 16.

Quimby Country, in Averill, VT is an old school lodge and 19 rustic cabins, around for more than 100 years, off the grid and nestled in Moose Country.  Perfect for families and groups.  As comfortable as an old shoe.  With swimming and yacking on Great Averill lake, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, tennis, and some of the best road cycling in the East.

The Highland Lodge, in Greensboro, VT, is a classic lodge with cabins, dining, and bar.  It’s beach on Caspian Lake makes it a perfect swim retreat and great lodging for the Willoughby – Caspian weekend.

Little Gnesta B & B is a favorite among our athletes.  Now under new ownership of Albert and his dog Roscoe.

Vita Huset, just across the street from Little Gnesta offers extended stay suites (minimum 4 days).  Ruthie and her little dog, Philip, are terrific hosts.

A Place in Time B&B is another favorite.

Lake Salem Inn has gotten great reviews from runners, bikers, and swimmers alike.

Derby Line Village Inn is a magical stay within sight of the border, with just the best Austrian dining in the northeast.  I know, I’m biased.  Fritz is a master chef, a master skier, and a master accordion player.

The Prouty House, Second Street, Newport, VT  Graciously renovated  Four bedrooms with private baths.  Rent by the room or by the house.

The Big Green Victorian, in downtown Newport is another Airbnb option that has been well reviewed and is well run.

  1. I am just building up my distance, from one to 2 miles, have not done 2 miles, but ready to pursue. Where is the best place for me to go? Also I need to bring my dog with me, when I travel from NH up to the Northeast kingdom. Any suggestions?

    1. Are you running? Swimming? I think Newport Inn & Suites has some dog friendly options. I’ll double check.
