The NorthWoods Stewardship Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 educational, research and conservation service organization serving the communities of northern Vermont and New Hampshire since 1989. Our Education, Conservation Corps, and Forest Stewardship Initiative programs interconnect to provide the knowledge and skills needed to understand the northern landscape, make use of its resources wisely, and help sustain vibrant communities and a healthier natural environment. Memphremagog Trails–A premier system of year-round recreational trails along the eastern shores, woodlands and ridgelines of Lake Memphremgog. These trails were created and maintained for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, mountain biking, hiking and walking. The trails are expertly groomed and comprise over 25 kilometers of outdoor fun for enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Memphremagog Trails is interconnected with the newly completed trails of the Newport City waterfront to the Beebe Spur Bike Path. Clyde River Recreation – Kayak rentals and shuttled kayak excursions on the Clyde River, Spring Summer and Fall.  For more information:  Clyde River Recreation

Beebe Spur Bike Path – a five mile, largely gravel bike path and walking and running trail from The Gateway Center in downtown Newport, through Prouty Beach, Bluff Farm, and along the eastside of Lake Memphremagog up to the Canadian Border.  Across the border is the 16 mile Tomifobia Nature Trail from Beebe to Ayre’s Cliff.  In the winter the Beebe Spur is groomed as a cross country ski trail by Memphremagog Trails.  For more information see:

Hiking Trails – Throughout the area are some extraordinary, well marked, and well maintained  walks and hikes.  Darling Hill, Pisgah, Wheeler Mountain, Bear Mountain, the Long Trail.  For more information and trail maps: xxxxx

Craftsbury Outdoor Center – Training center for Olympians offers miles and miles of cross country skiing trails in the winter, running and biking trails and sculling in the summer, suitable for all levels of athlete.  Events and Camps are offered throughout the year.  Great for a day trip or extended stay on campus.  For more information: The Craftsbury Outdoor Center

Sunfish Rentals on Lake Memphremagog – City of Newport’s Department of Parks and Recreation maintains a small fleet of Sunfish that it rents by the hour or by the day at Prouty Beach

Motorboat Rental on Lake Memphremagog – Newport Marine Services has a pontoon boat for rent by the half day or full day.  For more information see: Newport Marine Services.

Northern Star – Tour Boat on Lake Memphremagog with lunches, dinners, education and private parties, allows passengers to experience the beauty, the mystery and the history of the lake.  The Norther Star operates from May into October.  For more information: Memphremagog Community Maritime
